Master Plan for Porto Vecchio

Design Challenge:

To re-establish the relationship between the port and the old city severed by construction of the highway. The project was an extension of Renzo Piano’s Master plan completed for the 1992 Columbus Exposition, on a site in the old Port, Porto Vecchio, with the Palazzo San Georgio facing the super elevata.

Design Solutions:

We proposed a design solution to work with the existing elevated highway structure by creating a continuous market place underneath. Four towers would frame Genova’s most famous building, Palazzo San Georgio, a beacon to the port of the old city.
